My Mam
Amid the 2020 lockdown, I started on a journey that transformed me, all thanks to the wise words from my beloved Mam: "Don't Spoil the Ship for a Ha'porth of Tar!"
For years, these words have stuck with me and keep urging me to not give up what's important for something small. It comes from shepherds using a dab of tar to protect their sheep from pesky bugs—it's simple but smart, just like the advice.
While searching for a way to capture this wisdom, I wanted something visual that showed its deep meaning. The idea of making it real through art lit a fire in me. During those crazy days, painting became my safe space—a way to dive deep into this timeless insight. With every brushstroke, I learned more, connecting what's in my head with what's on the canvas.
Embracing my newfound passion, I embraced my Mam's teachings by exploring creativity and sharing wisdom with this artwork, offering a friendly reminder to focus on what truly matters and treasure guidance over time.
From introspection, a purpose emerged: to embody my passions—travel and cocktails, now channelled through my newfound love for art.
